"If you do not already know Ramito is viewed as the greatest singer of Puerto Rican folk music; as well as mastering some Cuban forms, since Spanish folk music in the Caribbean is composed of a variety of styles such as decima, mapeye, marianda, porro, aguinaldo, plena, and a variety of other forms. Ramtio Puerto Rico's Favorite is a fine compilation. Along with Ramito (El Cantor de la Montana) by Ansonia Records (ANSCD 1277) they are the two best Cds you can purchase on this great artist. The tradition of this type of music dates back to the era of the Spanish troubadors and thematically the lyrics emphasize the human condition of betrayed love, a natural disaster, a father who neglects his daughter, the world of happiness and suffering, and a variety of other topics. Outside of Puerto Rico and Cuba this music is unknown since most of the Ameircan market stresses Salsa and Merengue (I say this with no disrespect to these two art forms, for they are both wonderful genres in their own right). You cannot lose with this cd, if folk music from the Spanishh Antilles is what you hunger for."

"As I listened to the sample music, I thought of my grandfather and father playing their guitars. This is my heritage. Music like this brings back those memories I shared with my family when I was young and they were alive. I simply LOVE IT. I just can't believe amazon.com has Puerto Rican music like this!!"
