Album Description

Portugal has a rich heritage of musical styles localized in different part of the country. These 1988 recordings of dances, songs, and instrumental music include dance music and a ballad from the northeast, ritual songs from the central eastern region, unaccompanied vocal polyphony from the south, instrumental music played on Portuguese guitars from the central city of Coimbra, and some examples of folk revival traditions from the Tagus valley and the northwestern region. Includes a deluxe 76-page booklet with map, photographs, and ntoes in English and Portuguese. 30 tracks. 70 minutes. Good Stuff

"This is a good album, but I recommend mostly to Portuguese people or fans of traditional music. Keep in mind that this is really the "raw" and "pure" sound that people play, dance, and sing in the Portuguese countryside. Many musicians sell abuns which they claim to be traditional music but it is very different from the actual folk music. This is the real stuff."
