CD Reviews

Funky, the way they intended it!

"Eight of Philadelphia International's greatest hits, in their full 12" glory! The eight tracks take up 70:51! We're talking 10:00+ tracks! This was originally a double-LP set. Super for DJs!"
Detroit didn't have a thing on Philly!

"While much is made of the influence of Motown on contemporary music, one cannot deny that Philadelphia International held its own and was also instrumental in the evolution of the modern sound. I got this collection as one of perks of being a radio DJ at the time of the album's release.

Boy, I wish that everyone could be so lucky 'cause R & B was never "classier"."

"You have found the album that defines the disco era. This is why disco became popular in the early 70's. This is music that makes you move with PASSION, EMOTION, SOUL & FUNK! In the clubs of NYC in 1973 clubgoers used to dance into the wee hours of the morning while the DJ's were playing this music from 45 RPMs!!! (I remember the local DJ with 2 copies of "Bad Luck", extending the song until the crowd went nuts!) Now you can relive these moments with "PHILLY CLASSICS".This album has all the players from Gamble & Huff's hit machine; Teddy, 3 Degrees, O'Jays, MFSB,Intruders. All the songs are remixed longer (NOT CHANGED) so you can hear the instrumentals that came to be known as TSOP! It also has the original version of "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes feat. Teddy Pendergrass.(covered in 1975 by Thelma Houston) This LP also has the all time dance classic "Love is The Message"by MFSB(still hot after all these years)! This lp does not have a weak cut on it! For those of you that were under a rock during this period it has an extended "Love Train" by the O'Jays! I would recommend this LP to all DJ's,(they already own it), dance music lovers, and pop music historians, for this music has, and is still influencing music producers to this day!!!"
