CD Reviews

A shotgun blast of sounds from one of the best indie labels
LoneWolfandCub | Bridgeport, CT United States | 10/05/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Once again Peanut Butter Wolf serves up a slammin collage of the supreme talent that his label has to offer. This Chrome Children-esque compilation gives you twenty tracks featuring the kind of quality that is missing from today's hip hop scene. Two of Dilla's Donuts get nicely reworked with the addition of verbal wizadry by Q-Tip, Kweli, Doom and Guilty on "Lightworking" and "Mash's Revenge." Madlib offers his usual effortless concoction of mind blowing thumpery - "The Wigflip" and "Trouble" are instant face melters. There's also a much needed return of Lord Quas, well sort of, it's a remix but still...All in all this comp is a much needed oasis in the middle of a hip hop landfill. If you are unfamiliar with Stones Throw, this works as a good prep course along with Chrome Children 1 & 2. Pick them up and prepare to have your ears coated with audio sucrose."
A true jammer

(4 out of 5 stars)

"OK, I gotta admit that when I first got the CD, I was highly pumped. The reason I'm giving 4 stars is because of how many of the tracks are actually on the NBA 2k8, but the CD is still pretty good. Give it a spin and you'll see why it's pretty well-balanced when it comes right down to it."
