"The Northumberland pipes are unique. The recording gives a solid overview of these relativly unknown variety of bagpipes. Some of the tunes on the CD are familiar to fans of the GHB (Great Highland Bagpipe) while others are strictly Northumberland. The unique bubbly sound is created by lifting only one finger at a time off the chanter. I really liked this CD."
Excellent and Necessary

"If you think what you have heard on Sting's CDs is nice, do yourself a favor and listen to the real thing. If you like the tasty, jazzy items you hear on Kathrine Tickell's CDs, listen to this to hear where she's coming from. If you like the old recordings of Alan Lomax, Ewen MacColl and other archivists, this recording is a gem that reflects many facets of a little known tradition before it nearly expired and was then transformed into what we have today. Besides, you have to love a musician with a name like Billy Pigg. It's a bonus he was brilliant."
