"This disc has two tracks on it. Track two is the khyal "Sajana Aye Mere Dware" in raga Malkauns by Robin Kumar Chatterjee. I've only played that once. But track one is the real gem: a dhrupad performance ("Manusha ho to Vohi") in raga Kamboji by Khansahebs Nasir Mohinuddin & Nasir Aminuddin Dagar, the LEGENDARY Senior Dagar Brothers! If you have never heard dhrupad music before, this is the CD to start with. They sing for half an hour, and the first time I heard it I froze and sat spell-bound for the entire half-hour, with chills going up and down my spine CONSTANTLY for 30 minutes! This may be the best recorded performance ever of udhak gamak, a special singing technique that the Dagar family has been famous for ... Mohinuddin does it time and time again here. It can be likened to a neighing horse, but in a low octave, and imagine a singer that can land each component of the "neigh" on a separate musical note - and you've got Nasir Mohinuddin Dagar. This is one of only 3 or 4 available CDs of the elder Dagars. Get it, before it goes out of print!"
