"Both this second volume and the first are based upon a 1975 4-LP set (and book) of the same name released by Transatlantic. In the 30 years since, many more tracks have become available (new and old) so the original 58 songs have been expanded to an amazingly full 123 songs over six compact discs.



There are the expected superstars of course -- Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Fotheringay, Sandy Denny, John Renbourn, Bert Jansch, Albion Band, Morris On, Richard & Linda Thompson -- but for me the real value of these comps is in the bands I DID NOT KNOW. There are literally dozens of amazingly-good unknowns, proving that what we heard on this side of the Atlantic was only the tip of the iceberg.



The British folk-rock movement produced scads of wonderful music, and from the uniformly excellent quality on these six discs one has to conclude at least 20 more are possible. Compiler Laurence Aston is to be commended -- and encouraged to keep going!"

"I would like to add a hearty second to the review by Robert Carlberg -- if you have any affinity or affection at all for English folk rock (or the electric British revival of medieval and renaisance music that began in the 1960's and has continued to the present day), then you will love this three CD set. It is a wonderful collection of music!"
