CD Reviews

" A Reggae Classic, second to none ! "
STEWART P. LAI-FANG | Trinidad & Tobago | 03/18/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Boy oh boy ! It shudders me to think that there are Reggae cds, such as this compilation, out there on the market today, that people are apparantly not even aware of, and as a sad result are non-existant in their music collections (judging from the fact that at the time of this writing, there were no existing reviews on this compilation).

I am speaking about Classic Reggae (instrumental) of the highest calibre !

I accidentaly stumbled on this musical gem while randomly browsing through reggae cds here on Amazon a few weeks ago! Not at all familiar with the titles on the cd , I was immediately struck with a euphoric, nostalgic, familiarity of the soundtracks (thanks to the music samples).

The irony of the whole thing was, having discovered on the sample clips, a piece of music that I have always wanted to acquire, but had no knowledge of its title (Leaving Rome); purchasing the cd (and buyers be aware of this), only to discover upon receiving it, that 'Leaving Rome' was not at all on the cd (obviously an error on the part of 'Amazon' and also of 'All Music Guide', both of whom lists 'Leaving Rome' as one of the tracks on this compilation) Now while this may sound disastrous, let me assure all readers of this review, that every single existing track on this cd, is worth its sonic weight in gold many times over, and my initial disappointment was soon overshadowed with extasy!

I shall not go into any detail about the tracks on this compilation, for to do so would be repetitious, " GREAT !, GREAT !, GREAT ! "

I cannot overstate how highly I recommend this cd to all true lovers of classic Rocksteady & Reggae music, and I do most certainly put this one up there with Soul Jazz's ' STUDIO ONE'S SCORCHER INSTRUMENTALS ' and Heartbeat's ' DOWNBEAT THE RULER '.

The sound quality is very good, considering the age of these recordings, and I don't think that anyone would be dissapointed.

Just for the record, the beautiful tune ' Leaving Rome ' by Jo Jo Bennett & the Rythm Rulers is available on Trojan's ' CREOLE REGGAE ' 3 Disc Box Set.

Peace & Love brothers and sisters !"
