"In the 1930's stars not only had to act, but they sang and danced too. This CD is full of classic performances by such movie musical legends as Fred Astaire, Ruby Keeler, Bing Crosby, Harriet Hilliard(of Ozzie and Harriet), Mae West and many others. This was an era where the line between pop and jazz was paper thin, and many of these stars were backed by first rate jazz oriented dance bands, and many of these performers such as Sophie Tucker, Cliff Edwards and Fred Astaire were able to swing right along with their hot backup bands. These stars sound as though they recorded these songs yesterday thanks to genius Robert Parkers digital stereo impressions. Some highlights include Sophie Tucker singing the classic "Some Of These Days", and Fred Astaire swinging "Bojangles Of Harlem" and Harriet Hilliard singing "Get Thee Behind Me Satan." Every track is a true gem, and they are all enjoyable. Many of these performances are rare and jazz oriented making this cd essential for anyone interested in movie musicals or classic jazz/pop singing.
