CD Reviews

Excellent
Marc Gustafson | San Diego, CA United States | 02/07/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This mix is divided into 3 CD's each of which corresponds to a city where the set might get the best reaction. I love this style of organization because it ties dance music lovers into the global scene without getting too hung up on genre. In fact, none of the 3 CD's presents a simple genre-specific approach as each delves into its own universe crossing paths with each other and weaving deftly to the waving arms of the imaginary crowds. All of the music on these CD's is of excellent quality as one would expect from a long-time selector like Francois K, so this mix is recommended for anyone who tracks it down.

However, I did get the distinct impression that this set would work best for newcomers who are not as familiar with the tracks. For example, on Napoli, Deadmau5 Not Exactly is played out for a full 7 minutes, but this track was the #1 track on Beatport for more than a month. Mabye it's just me though, since I never really liked that particular track that much. Still, the tracks used are for the most part extremely popular (and for good reason, they're excellent), so I didn't get the sense that I was finding a lot of hidden gems. However, there are definitely some great ones on here that I had missed; Airfrog's Bon Voyage and Henrik Schwarz's Digital World come to mind.

Anyway, my music soul is tied to Manchester, and it's my favorite disc by far. So if you're a techno fetishist like myself, I would recommend getting Francois K's Frequencies over this set. But you can't go wrong here either."
The sound of 2008 in clubs
Double D | New York | 01/31/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This triple CD mixed by New York's Francois K provides the listener with a large range of sounds.

The first CD represents the current electro & minimal soundtrack played by most DJs. Some highlights for me on this CD are: Rejected "Let's Go Juno" (with this old school piano riff) and Deep Dish's Dubfire "RibCage".

In the second CD, Francois mixes his favorite peak hour techno anthems. Among those, you have probably heard Robert Hood's "Still Hear" or Len Faki "Rainbow Delta" on other CDs and at your favorite night club.

The French-born New-Yorker goes very deep on the last CD, more on the chill-out side. Perfect soundtrack to relax after a long stressful day at work."
