CD Reviews

A LETHAL DOSE OF HARD PSYCH
Mr. T. J. Gray | walton on thames, surrey United Kingdom | 07/24/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"A very good compilation of obscure american psych groups of the mid 60s and early 70s.Every song has a fuzz guitar sound to it and the usual garage/psych ramblings of the faceless groups featured on this collection. Each song featured has informative notes on it even though some have only a couple of lines, the covers quite colorful but the only thing that lets it down is the black and white photo on the front, but I bought this collection due to the obscurity of the acts featured and to add to my collection of obscure psych."

"Looks to be the label's second installment of a three disc 'series' if you want to call it that - of even more obscure / underground U.S. psychedelic bands from the 1966-70 era. A bit similar to those 'Pebbles' compilation CD's you might have seen around or even the (much beloved) 'Nuggets II' 4-CD box set. Bands that do the most for me on this title are Catfish Knight, Flower Power, The Aardvarks (likely the best known group of the bunch), the way-out sounding Dutch Masters, Cardboard Box with their catchy "Come On, Baby" and Crystal Rain. I'm assuming that some (or perhaps all) of these tunes were mastered off a single 45 vinyl - ether way, sound quaility couldn't be better. Clearly, another must-have - must-own - must-keep CD. Ideal to play at parties."
Subconcious Train of Thought - The Aardvarks

"Finally, "Subconcious Train of Thought" - The Aardvarks on CD! It's been a long wait. My brother went to school w/ the lead guitarist, Mike Wee...they were a great local St. Louis band in the late 60's. I believe there was an off-shoot of these ant eaters called Spur (if memory serves). Great Stuff!"
