CD Reviews

Lush, gorgeous, exhilarating
K. Kontos | Piraeus, Greece | 11/04/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I can never stop being emotional about this soundtrack, really.

Krull was just pleasantly entertaining popcorn fodder, back in the early eighties. Hey, but the soundtrack, the music!

It instantly stands out of the rest of the movie. Grand on a truly epic scale, absolutely gorgeous themes powerful enough to get you out of any bad mood! I dare anyone to listen to the main theme (riding the fire mares) and remain unaffected.

Horner has never really outdone this piece of work. It is an absolute classic and a real shame that we don't get a new, high quality release."
Ride of the Fire Mares is where it's at!

"That being said, this is my #1 favorite OST in my entire collection. (I own the 2-disc SuperCollector's edition) If my house burned down I'd be pissed if I couldn't get to my discs and pick this out. When it's time to soundtrack-it-out on a lonely work night, this is the score I consider first. It's not ritual to play it always, I don't want to kill it (if that's possible) but the desire is there. And for great reason.

The entire film is in here, & there are no tracks to be confused about.

Themeic coverage is almost complete in this score. Nearly everything humans can feel are seeded here: comradery, risk, sacrfice, triumph, love, puissance, adventure, wonder.

If you don't get it, then you shouldn't even buy the original release which is for sale here. You probably don't like scores anyhow. Go back to WWF and pro-racing.

It's his coverage and range I adore. It's magnanomous in that way. Again, #1 for a reason. Vince Dicola's Transformers comes in a close second.

Food for thought: Horner reuses themic representation. You can hear surprise, jolting, resounding shock, and fear, as a sound, in other scores he's done. So some element of pure taste/opinion plays a part in my adoration; he uses the sounds that appeal to me, they speak volumes...to me. Others don't get it, if they do, I've not met but maybe one.

If you liked the film, then buying the extended 2-disc set & listening to it will surely make apparent why."
Love the soundtrack, but too broke to afford it

"This is probably my favorite soundtrack of all time (Willow and Jurassic Park being right up there). Many people love it to death. Why can't an affordable version be released? They have special 2 discs CDs of canned soundtrack music that you can hear on your local radio station any time of the day (a la "Wedding Singer"), but they can't release a reissue of a brilliant original soundtrack? Nearly every other Horner soundtrack is available except his first and best. Something wrong with that."
