It was only a matter of time until Bugs Bunny got bored with getting the better of harebrained hunters. Now he's moved on to raising hackles as host of You Don't Know Doc!, a two-disc audio trivia quiz for kids 8 and up featuring his Looney Tunes comrades as contestants. On the ACME Wise-Guy Edition, the general-knowledge episode, the smart-aleck MC tests Foghorn Leghorn, Michigan J. Frog, Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, and Marvin the Martian on everything from blue whales to blue moons to duckbilled platypuses to Dr. Seuss. The results are typically, ridiculously hilarious. Elmer chimes in that he thinks Tin Lizzie, the answer to a question about the nickname of the Model-T Ford, is a "wock band." Daffy comes up with "Bic Rogers" and "Papermate Jones" as the pen names of author Samuel Clemens, and Sam launches into a string of his trademark expletives ("Varmint! Longhaired galoot!") after the judges refuse to allow his "Amazin' River" answer to a question about the Amazon. Peppered throughout this record's three rounds of play are off-the-wall sound effects and fake commercials, complete with silly jingles for such unforgettable ACME products as rocket-powered boxer shorts: "ACME Industries / For rocket-powered BVDs! (Dangerous burns can occur if used while chasing roadrunners.)." This CD is a saving grace for parents with bored-silly kids. A screwball surprise ending leaves the door open for future episodes, which kids may well end up clamoring for. -- Tammy La Gorce
