CD Reviews

One Great CD

"To some people, INSTANT STAR 2 may be just one more entry into the glamour girl pop rock genre, but the big difference here is that Canadian rocker Alexz Johnson is a bit of a phenom that entirely deserves to be heard. While some of the entries here may be easily dismissed as middleground rock ("Liar Liar," "There's Us"), there are more entries ("How I Feel," "Over-rated," "White Lines") that have terrific composition, outstanding vocals, and greater relevence than most of what you're hearing from other rock wannabes. "How Strong Do You Think I Am" is a particularly strong track, and "My Sweet Time" could easily stand the test of time to be one of Alexz Johnson's greatest hits. These songs are catchy, memorable, and -- dare I say it -- quite darn good.

If there's any weakness here, it could be that a few of the tunes sound a bit too close to what other performers in Johnson's caliber (i.e. Avril Lavinge comes to mind) are penning. Looking beyond that, however, Johnson imbues these songs with an almost 'timelessness' that only great rock songs possess ... and I'm quite certain that the test of time will only bear out great things for this one 'Instant Star.'"

"First off, Alexz's voice is absolutely amazing. One of the reasons I love Instant Star is because of her talent. Her voice, song-writing ability, and appearance are awesome. Compared to the first IS album, this one kind of sucks. That's what I thought at first at least. After a couple listens i've fallen in love with this new style. These songs are more slowed down, and have more piano it seems.

1.Liar Liar-Eerie, mellow intro to the album. I like the faded voice, and the chorus by far! "Tell me you love me like a star" 5/5

2.How Strong Do You Think I Am-First single. It's growing on me fast! 5/5

3.Anyone But You-Pretty fast track. Another one that grows on me. 4.5/5

4.How I Feel-Not my favorite. I don't reallly know, but i just dont like it. Like I do, but I dont. 3/5

5.There's Us-Some parts I like, some I don't. Alot like 'How I Feel'. I lovethe chorus "Not everything is supposed to come true" 3.5/5

6.Over Rated-Yea the title kind of explains itself. Other people like it, but it's too poppish for me. My least favorite on the album. 1/5

7.Natural Disaster-LOVE IT!!! The music is different, and wow the lyrics are awesoe aao the album. 100/5

8.Fade To Black-Another favorite. So cool! 5/5

9.Another Thin Line-Also another favorite!! It reminds me of 'That Girl' from the first album, but faster. 5/5

10.Not Standing Alone-Pretty good song, could be way better but I like it. 4/5

11.My Sweet Time-Wow!! Talk about maturing form the first cd. It had to grow on me, but wow it's great!! 5/5

12.Who Am I Fooling-Reminds me of Jakalope. Good, but i'lhaftu grow on me. 3.5/5

13.White Lines-Slow, good way to end the album. 4/5

TOP 3:

Natural Disaster

Another Thin Line

Liar Liar

BOTTOM 3:

There's Us

How I Feel

Over Rated"

"The first "Instant Star" soundtrack was also a great cd, but I think this one may actually be better than the first one. The tracks on this cd show of Alexz Johnson's vocal range even better than the first album did. While there were good songs on the first one, I think there are some even better ones on this cd such as "Liar Liar", "Who Am I Fooling?", "There's Us", "Anyone But You" and more. I recommend this cd to everyone."
