A little too lite-FMish

"There are some pretty choice cuts here, not the least of which is the Jose Padilla track remixed by Way Out West, which is just mellow enough and has some nifty tribal rhythms going on. Unfortunately, even that track sounds a mite dated at this point, and the worst tracks on this album sound like what you'd hear while shopping for a pair of loafers at Macy's. This is supposed to convey a breezy, seaside kinda vibe, but it doesn't work since the music is not timeless. It's very much of the moment, that moment being 1995. And I find it hard to believe that the Marc Antoine track, which has about as much guts as a Kenny G track, would have been a good choice in any era. Pick up the Thievery Corporation contribution to the DJ Kicks series for a really great mellow compilation album. Or even the double disc import 'The Big Chill', which has some choice cuts from Mr. Scruff, Fila Brazilia, Cim, Hefner, and others."
