Synopsis

Album Description

A collection of the greatest songs from the movies of the '80s rearranged by Marc Collin, Nouvelle Vague's producer. Like Nouvelle Vague, Hollywood, Mon Amour revisits a genre, a period, retaining only the basic skeleton of the songs (melody and lyrics) to demonstrate that by arranging them differently they can take on a new life while still respecting the original. For this project their attention was drawn to the songs featured in the movies of the '80s, those mainly produced in Hollywood, This is not history revisited, but a part of musical history rewritten that all came about while rearranging the songs from the movies of the '80s, each time imagining a different story and a different era. Features guest vocals from Skye, Juliette Lewis, Cibelle, Yael Naim, Dea Li, Katrine Ottosen, Nadeah, Leelou, Nancy Danino and Bianca Calandra. 16 tracks. PIAS.

A surprising twist on songs from popular films in the 1980s

"I was at my local record store yesterday for National Record Store day when I came across HOLLYWOOD, MON AMOUR. It is a compilation put together by Nouvelle Vague's producer Marc Collins. On the album is 16 songs from popular films from the 1980s. Considering the type of downtempo music Nouvelle Vague is known for, my curiousity was piqued when I saw the songs and the female artists who sang on the songs. On a whim, I bought the cd. I am so glad I took a chance on the cd. I have not been able to stop listening to the album. All of the songs are given a Nouvelle Vague type of treatment. They have that retro chill out sound.

One of my personal favorite tracks is "Flashdance...What a Feeling" with Yael Naim. The famous dance track from Irene Cara is toned down a lot and given a piano ballad treatment. I also love the new version of Blondie's "Call Me" with ex-Morcheeba singer Skye. As someone who grew up in the '80s, I am pretty familiar with most of the songs except for "This is Not America" from the film Falcon and the Snowman. That was the one song I was not impressed with but then again I don't think Juliette Lewis can sing at all so she ruined that song for me. Other than that turkey of a song, I loved the album."
