CD Reviews

Violent World Tribute is 10 x's better
Jack Hoff | Ohio | 09/02/2000
(1 out of 5 stars)

"This is the lousiest tribute albums I have ever heard. The Violent World tribute album is way more superior. These bands seem to be trashing the Mifits legacy , not honoring it. If you want a good tribute album get Violent World."
Better than a "Violent World"!!!!

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Well, most of these Cleo tributes have been hit or miss... give or take a few cool ones... (the Cure, AC/DC, Skinny Puppy, etc.) but this is the one that idiotic 'Violent World' tribute SHOULD have been! (Pennywise doing 'Astro Zombies'... C'MON! I'd rather listen to 'Hangin' Tough' by the New Kids...) In Hell on Earth you have a mixture of REAL punk and metal bands doing classic 'Glenn' era tunes! Instead of Goldfinger or NOFX ruining material that, upon hearing their own original tunes, never seemed to have inspired them to cover these in the first place. Now at least we have some interpretations that actually retain the aggressiveness and edge of the originals! The EHC's 'Devil's Whorehouse' is absolutely incredible! They've added a cool intro and put a strange twist on the vocals! Any Fits fan, with an open mind, will dig it! I mean, I've heard all these songs thousands of times and these new versions really make em' fresh! Other stand outs include the Hellacopters' 'Bullet', Deranged' 'Green Hell' (GREAT DEATH METAL COVER!!!!!), & black metal maestros Gehennah's version of 'Ghouls Night Out'. I gave it 4 stars because of a few lemons.. namely Balzac's 'Devil's Whorehouse' (do we need 2 versions of the same song??) & 69 Eyes' 'Return of the Fly' (this wasn't even a very good fits song!). Also, where is 'Last Caress', or 'Attitude', or '20 Eyes' or 'Astro Zombies'? These are classic Fits tunes that I would have loved a band like Exhumed or the Crown to do... All and all, though, a pretty enjoyable comp to be play LOUD in your car or around 3 am."
