A Pleasure To The Ears, And A Wonderful Joy To The Heart
Ernest Jagger | Culver City, California | 08/07/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Growing up in California during the 1960s, I often heard the beautiful sounds of the "Harps of Veracruz." Having owned several albums by various Mexican artists; I inadvertently left a box of them outside during a move one year, and when I went back to fetch them they were gone. As time went by, I decided to seek these beautiful albums out on CD. However, I could not find them anywhere. No music store had them, or could order them. They just weren't available. After scouring everywhere, such as LP stores, no such luck. However, I was able to obtain this most excellent CD through of all places---Japan.

Yes, Japan! Produced by Hoshikawa Kyoji, and recorded by King Record, Japan, this CD is part of the WORLD MUSIC LIBRARY. The Mexican musicians recorded these beautiful sounds in Japan, and I am grateful. I bought this CD about ten years ago, and I am not sure if it is still in print. However, I would recommend viewers to seek this beautiful music out. These Harps are not to be missed. My favorite songs are EL BALAJU, LAS TRES HUASTECAS and EL QUERREQUE. But ALL of the musical compositions on this CD are terrific, and I HIGHLY recommend viewers to seek this beautiful music out. The sounds of these Harp players are truly magical. The joyful sounds of the Harp players and the vocals of the Mexican singers are a true joy to the heart. Personally, I cannot get enough of this music.

I first heard this beautiful music when I was just a young boy in the mid-to-late 1960's growing up in Southern California. To think that my father used to play this music, (He was a farm boy who came out to California, from Indiana, at age 15) makes me appreciate his eclectic taste in music: All very foreign to my neighbors and friends. These harps always bring back my childhood to me. This music, along with Arthur Lyman and Martin Denny remind me of my youth. These "Harps of Veracruz" are not to be missed. If you have never heard this beautiful music then your ears and soul are missing something. They really are that great. If you happen to purchase this particular CD, or ANY album of these beautiful and talented musicians, just relax and enjoy the beautiful music."
