2009 compilation that combines 23 recordings by various artists displaying the fine selection of Soul music issued on the UK Ember label in the '60s and '70s. Many of the sides are available for the first time in decades and they are all rare and collectable. The CD begins with five tracks that are known on the Northern Soul scene. Mr. Floods Party come in with a propulsive version of the jazzy Gene McDaniels song 'Compared To What'. The dancers' favorite take of 'Looky Looky' by The Brothers Grimm is included here. R&B flavored items such as Jewel Akens' 'Wee Bit More Of Your Lovin'' have been getting more exposure in the clubs in recent years. The Casinos were known for their ballads, but 'That's The Way' proves they could deliver a commanding performance on uptempo tracks too. Although The Values' 'Return To Me' originally came out on a New Orleans label, it has a decidedly uptown Soul feel and was probably recorded in Los Angeles.
