The most innovative DJ in Trance

"If you listen to the top trance releases of 1999/2000 (Oaky, Digweed, Sasha, Dave Ralph) these discs blur to the point they are diffucult to tell apart. This is partly from track selection (These guys are playing alot of the same tracks), and partly from a very similar style of trance. On the other hand if you play Nick Warren's 3 GU releases back-to-back it seems as if you are listening to 3 completely different DJ's with only one thing in common: that they are all trying to push the envelope of Trance and electronic music as far as they can, but in different directions. This time Nick Warren has decided to spin two full discs of RELENTLESS progressive trance. In my opinion the best Nick Warren and GU release to date. This CD can simultanousely appease trance fans hungry for an emotional/musical voyage, and house-techno fans looking for intense beats. If that is hard for you to imagine, well, you just have to hear it for yourself! Extremely good and original track selection, amazing consistency (not a sinlge lame song on both discs), and of course world class mixing, courtesy of Mr. Nick Warren."

"The second CD is very good. The first one, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. Tracks 6-10 just don't seem to be melodic enough; in fact, they are really boring. In all fairness, it is possible that those tracks work very well in a club environment but at home on my discman they just sound monotonous. The rest of CD1 is fine but nothing to write home about. All in all, I find Dave Seaman's track selections to be much better; just check out Seaman's Renaissance CDs and his GU012. To sum up, this compilation is not particularly memorable but it is definitely worth having."
The Best of Warren's First Four GU Releases

"Global Underground 011: Budapest is Nick Warren's third release for the series. I am not a big fan of Warren's first four GU releases, but out of the quartet, this is definitely my favorite. Most of this has to do with track selection. Hard techno is one of my least favorite electronica genres (i.e. like all the tracks found on both discs of GU008:Brazil).
This album is definitely on the racier and harder side. No question. However, the tracks have much more depth to them than the majority of the tracks featured on the other 3 albums. More trance and progressive trance rifts help to break up the monotoney nicely.
I heavily favor Warren's later releases, but I will still listen to this one once in awhile.
Both discs get 4/5 stars."
