"This is a quartet date featuring two pianos -- Bill Charlap and Ted Rosenthal. The playing here is absolutely extraordinary and wonderful and the four-handed interplay is very reminiscent of Bill Evans on the legendary "Conversations with Myself."
The Mulligan tunes are gorgeous, the playing is magnificent,
and the supporting cast of bass and drums -- some tracks feature just two pianos, some two pianos and drums, some the full quartet -- is superb.
This is the kind of CD jazz desperately needs to prove it is
alive and well. It has seldom if ever in recent years been in more capable hands.
Grab this recording and treasure it. Two rising stars are evident in Ted Rosenthal and Bill Charlap. Yes, they pay heavy homage to Bill Evans in terms of their approach. But is that such a bad thing?
These guys can PLAY."
