Fun Halloween Eletronica
07/10/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"When I bought "Fright Night Delight"--along with a few other Halloween CDs--, I had expected just sound effects: doors creaking, bats flying, screams--you get the idea. This CD, however, is a mix of sound effects and dance music, which was a little better than I had hoped, since I enjoy both."Fright Night Delight" starts with one of my favorite tracks on here: "Vampire's Delight", a slow song with a mixture of piano, organ, and electronic drum beats. Next is the "Theme From Beetlejuice", which I remembered more from the cartoon than from the movie. Track 3 ("Lurking in the Dark") is another good one, with a slow, eerie combination of electronica/piano/organ. Track 4 ("Dance of the Demented Goblins"), however, is hard to take seriously at all. It's just a bunch of random cackles and laughs set to music. It's more like being at a circus than a haunted house.Tracks 5, 6, and 7 run together and are thus titled the "Terror Trilogy". Track 5 ("Thunderstorm"), a somewhat slow mix of rain and piano, is a little disappointing as a thunderstorm. It just seemed like typical rainy weather where I live (in the Pacific Northwest). Track 6 ("Chased Down") is a great swift song with string/horn instrumentals. Track 7 ("The Theme") is the most dance-ish song on here and another one of my favorites.Track 8 ("Supernatural") returns to the gloomy atmosphere with organ/electronica music, followed by Track 9 ("Vital Organ") with monks chanting/singing and ghostlike moaning. Track 10 ("Atramchasis Epos") is a very peaceful, relaxing song if you didn't know it was on a horror compilation and should have ended this CD, in my opinion. Track 11 ("Theme From the Addams Family"), however, breaks the melancholy pattern with its cheesy harpsichord rendition of the Addams family theme. Certainly not the best version I've heard of this song."Fright Night Delight" isn't a very creepy or scary CD at all, but it's still fun to listen to at night. It sets a great mood, and is certainly worth listening to if you enjoy Halloween and dance music. One of my favorites."

"THIS CD INCLUDES THOSE GREAT DARK/APOCALYPTIC CLASSICAL MUSIC SONGS THAT ARE FOUND IN SO MANY MOVIES BUT NEVER ABLE TO FIND ON CD. I STUMBLED ACROSS IT BY ACCIDENT AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED."
