CD Reviews

Majorly misleading disappointment

"I received this set as a well intentioned gift from my girlfriend who knows my tastes quite well. I was excited to listen to it as all of the songs are really great (IMO). I started with disc 2. I'm not too familiar with the first song so I let it play. On to disk 2, the guitar starts playing and its drenched in this really bad reverb. It sounded very different from the original. The girl started singing and I wondered if this was Pat Benatar even singing at all. Another song or two and I realized that these are not the original women singing their parts. I open the booklet and on the first inside page it reads "...the songs on this collection are not performed by the artists who made them famous..." I look on the back of the tin box and it reads "Performed by the Countdown Singers." Turns out, the countdown singers don't even have an official website that I could find, just a bunch of cover CD's. Okay, so they're not the original recordings, but are they still good? NO! Remember that big 80's sound. It is the result of a LOT of now vintage equipment that was commonly used at the time. This sounds like it was produced and mixed on somebody's laptop in their basement using pirated software and midi instruments. The singers would make a good wedding band, but any of them that I have heard so far lack the subtleties that make a legendary singer stand out. Since I already have the set, it is good for one thing. Many of the songs are ones that I've heard via my FM tuner but didn't know who originally released them. The booklet is at least helpful in that regard. This set is awful. Do NOT waste your money. It's not even laughable. It's just disappointing. STAY AWAY!!!"
I freaking hate the countdown singers

"I hate the countdown singers. Talk about totally misleading. I look at the track list and think "hey, this is a great buy for the price." Then I get it and pop in the first disk... this doesn't sound like R.E.M. so I look at the back of the tin and there, small in the corner, "Performed by the countdown singers" who in their right mind would want to buy great songs from incredibly lesser versions of incredibly awesome bands?"
OKAY, The Joke Is Over!

"WOW! This collection sure SUCKS!

As Simon Cowell would have put it, it really sounds like a horrific version of karaoke, let alone cabaret that you wouldn't want to sit in and listen on. Wouldn't even recommend it for a deaf person. That would be so cruel. It is not performed by any of the original artists, nor is it a good cover band version of any of the popular hits! Put down the collection hits box and step away from the crappy music compilation. Don't buy the album, you'll kill yourself! I am forced to give it one star because the system won't let me give it my true rating of "NO STARS!""
