CD Reviews

Great Disco Fun.

"I am not a strictly disco girl, being a devout rocker and lover of alternative guitar pop on a whole, while also even liking some Country too. However, for the disco lover that DOES exist in my vast knowledge and passion for music, there's lot's of great cuts here. My personal reason for purchase is the following cuts: ............. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." by Santa Esmeralda. This 1977 classic is here in it's ultra full length 16 minute version. I was hoping for an extended version, and boy is this ever. I never heard THIS extended version before. For that inclusion alone, I'm thoroughly THRILLED!! ............ "Let's All Chant" by the Michael Zager Band. Another classic of the late 70s disco era. (Also in an extended version). This CD has all full length versions, always preferable to radio edited versions from the original 45 releases. ......... Sure, there's more, but those two cuts are my personal favorites. The classic salsa latin flavored Eric Burdon and the Animals hit remake "Don't Let Me...." is not found on any other compliations I checked into here on amazon. For that cut alone, super extended too, this CD is worth having in YOUR disco collection. Buy it and ENJOY!!"

"Well worth the cost just for the 16min. full-length version of Santa Esmarelda "Don't let me be misunderstood". Especially now the Santa Esmarelda album has been deleted. Of the remaining cuts only the Ritchie Family "Best disco in town" is reproduced in its' original extended full-length mix. However there are still some surprises.. For example, the Love and Kisses track "How much I love you" is featured in its' original 12" promo format (which was itself edited down from the 15min. album cut). The Michael Zager Band "Let's all chant" is edited down from the original 12" version, but still manages to retain all the good bits (which was more than the original 7" ever did). Similarly, El Coco "Cocomotion" and the Village People "In Hollywood" have both been edited and reduced to something short of their original full-length versions without loosing anything of value. All other tracks appear in much shortened edited 7" versions. Still, after the full 16min. version of "Don't let me be misunderstood" there probably wasn't the space left for many more full length extended mixes. Note this CD will soon become very collectable, for the Santa Esmarelda track alone. Get it while you still can..."

"If you enjoyed dancing at Studio, Xenon's, Paladium and other NYC clubs in the late 70's - early 80's you will love this CD. I can close my eyes and go back with every song to those wonderful days. This is an excellent compilation of songs. I wish there were more like this one! Excellent creation."
