CD Reviews

"a tribute to Memorial Day & our fighting men & women"
J. Lovins | Missouri-USA | 05/27/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Just in time for the new motion picture release this weekend ~ "PEARL HARBOR", the multi-mega film about World War II and the events preceding. Concord Jazz serves up fifteen selections during this period in the early '40s ~ the list of composers is staggering ~ Frank Loesser, Jerome Kern, Ira Gershwin, Sammy Fain, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and many more. The musicians and artists featured are Howard Alden, Dan Barrett Quintet, Ruby Braff, Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby, James Darren, Scott Hamilton, Woody Herman, Susannah McCorkle, Dave McKenna, Marian McPartland, Flip Phillips, George Shearing, Jack Sheldon, Ross Tompkins, Mel Torme and Frank Weiss all giving their talent to the war effort, during these trying times in world history ~ showcasing some of the top songs as "ONE O'CLOCK JUMP", "AS TIME GOES BY", "SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY" and my all-time favorite "(THERE'LL BE BLUE BIRDS OVER)THE WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER" , sung by Rosie Clooney as only she can sing it."
