Album DescriptionRecorded in studios and homes from San Francisco to Eagle, Pennsylvania, Seattle to Cincinnati, this CD is a perfect hour of Echoes, the daily music soundscape from Public Radio International. Swiss harpist Andreas Vollenweider gave us an unreleased song "Wolkenstein," a gentle melody for Celtic harp, which appears only on this CD. The Angels of Venice also grace the disc with a previously unreleased piece "Forever After." Volume 5 includes new ambient music from Spool, and Spacecraft touches down with a previously unreleased spacescape called "White Crane." Other highlights include Happy Rhodes, singing the hauntingly beautiful tale of "The Chariot," and we have the warm and intimate voice of Samite, playing kalimba and singing a tune inspired by his native Uganda. We traveled to the Seattle area to record the harp and flute duo of David Michael and Randy Mead, and Native flute player Gary Stroutsos and his group. Alex de Grassi joined us for the intricate guitar finger picking of "Lost in the Woods." Scott Huckabay played acoustic guitar as well, only his is ramped through the effects of an electric guitarist. We return to ambience with Monk and a trance-like meditation for dobro called "Tattoo." All these performances are one-of-a-kind works, beautifully recorded and lovingly performed. It's an hour of the best of Echoes, captured on CD.
