CD Reviews

2-1/2 stars -- Flash in the pan

"Let's take a trip back to 1992. Michael Bivins scored big with Boyz II Men, and even sustained some moderate success with Another Bad Creation. But then he brought us the song "1-4-All-4-1". The song was recorded by the East Coast Family, who were supposed to be all these new Biv protégés, but then...?Has anyone heard from any of these people? I don't mean recently; I mean PERIOD -- after that song. We didn't hear of any albums or even singles from the likes of Tom Boyy, Tam Rock or Calé Brock. And there was another junior emcee named Fruit Punch, who started his verse with: "My name is Fruit Punch/And I don't get out much." Well, HE said it. And would you really be in a hurry to rush to the store to pick up an album from a group called Whytgize (white guys)? Speaking of which, they looked just like another group Michael Bivins tried to introduce in Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" video called Sudden Impact (if they weren't the same guys; oh well, nobody heard from THEM again either). The rest of the album isn't that interesting, either. It has eleven tracks, and five of them are Boyz II Men songs. And the songs aren't even new; they're just remixes of old songs. The only real treat is "Uhh Ahh [The Sequel]", which is kind of hard to find anywhere (but so is this compilation, actually). "End of the Road" is also on here, as well as two lame "new" tracks from each Another Bad Creation and MC Brains. In fact, the "1-4-All-4-1" song is the only song on the whole compilation that even features new talent. (By the way, were Boyz II Men even in that song? I don't remember.) These artists, just like all of Biv's other protégés after that point -- with the possible exception of 702 -- were just flashes in the pan, if that. I wonder if Biv 10's Pee-Wee All Stars finished high school yet.Anthony Rupert"

"East Coast Family is a BUNCH of groups.

No, they havent been heardfrom much after this, but the CD is Micheal Bivins doing his thing alongside a few groups he gave a shot.

Remixes, when done well, are great. These are well done.

if you like micheal bivins early production, you will Like this."
