CD Reviews

From master tapes
Joseph Watt | Scottsdale, AZ USA | 06/08/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The reason I wrote, "From Master Tapes" is that many of these Disco compilations are not, so BEWARE! I actually bought this for the Melba Moore track, because the 12" is VERY rare and hard to find. Fortuantely for me, they gave the 12" extended mix on this CD, so it was worth the price, just for that. There are many other great tracks on this set as well, but my "find" was Ms. Moore's, "You Stepped Into My Life". Why don't they write great songs like that any more? - jw"
Rare Extended Version of "Love Train" and More
David Jensen | Portland, OR USA | 05/21/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This collection has several great tracks, but the real gem is the hard-to-find 6-minute version of "Love Train" by the O'Jays. It opens with a 2-minute instrumental segment that is stunning, and later features extended vocals. I've never found this track on any other collection including the many O'Jays compilations that are available. In addition, the bass is stronger and overall sound quality is superior to the shorter version I've heard on other discs. You also get the long versions of other dance classics, the best of which are "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry, "Black Betty" by Ram Jam, and MFSB's "Love is the Message". I'm always persnickety about sound quality, and this set has perfect sound throughout. Of my many dance and disco CDs, this one is perhaps the most indispensable."
