Nice sampler of nature sounds from the Sittelle label

"This CD is part of a series which contain recordings that are supposed to suggest how the coming of dawn would sound in natural habitats all over the world. The six locations included here are diverse, and the sounds presented are often remarkable. The opening segment, from France, contains an astounding bird chorus from a marsh, with so many voices joining in that you will be hard-pressed to pick them all out. The concluding piece, a chorus of birds in a Canadian forest joined by a pack of howling wolves, is wonderful as well.Basically, this disc serves as a sampler of the environmental soundscapes that Sittelle has released on its many CDs. One thing that is not evident from the CD package, but which I discovered upon listening to the disc, is that the recordings on this disc are the exact same recordings that are featured on other discs in the Sittelle series. (For example, the closing Canadian piece is taken from "American Forests and Lakes.") So although the title is "Dawns of the World," a better one might be "The Best of Sittelle." If you are not heavily into buying these nature sound discs, but just want a sampler, then this disc will be adequate. However, if you are buying other soundscape CDs from this label, then I would not recommend this CD, as you will simply be duplicating material that you already have."
