Disintegration***** - Converge is AMAZING!
T. Thompson | AZ USA | 04/30/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"WOW! I have been a fan of The Cure for almost 18 years and have heard everything from instrumental "baby bedtime" tributes to Spanish comps covering our favorite angst masters, so I'm quite skeptical from the get-go and I'll tell you what-this is hands down the BEST Cure tribute album EVER! Not only is this covering one of their greatest albums ever, it an eclectic combination of artists, although the music is quite mainly metalcore/hardcore. Starting off with Cave In's beautiful version of "Plainsong," I knew this was not some low end comp. for the sake of doing a comp, this was thought out and done with passion. This song is the 2nd best track on the CD. The only reason this album did not get 5 stars from me is because of track #2, Chimaira's cover of "Fascination Street." Not only does Chimaira have no talent for me to speak of, their sloppy rendition of this bass-line driven jam is totally a mess. From his horrible vocal approach, to the sludgy mixed tempo groove-it's just bad-bad band, bad choice for the comp, but what are we gonna do, nothings perfect! But don't fear the rest of this CD is quite worth the price you'll pay when finally locating this gem. The last and best highlight of this album comes from Boston's own hardcore legends, Converge. Their full throttle version of "Disintegration" floors the competition on the CD. The vocal effects are phenomenal. They apparently love The Cure and it shows with their detailed remembrance of all the amazing small pieces of this track we have grown to love as "Cureheads" and they have slipped them into this off-the-wall version with style and grace. You have to listen for yourself-->It's a MUST OWN. I could write for days on this, but I won't. Enjoy!!"
It's all about the Boston bands on this comp

"The best tracks come from two bands from Boston-Converge (doing the BEST cover of any band I have EVER heard in my life) and Cave In, whose major label debut comes out March 18th on RCA records. It is worth searching the ends of the earth to find this just for these two songs alone!!!"
