CD Reviews

When radio was king

"I confess,Ilove the whole Crusin series.

It starts with 1955 and ends with 1970. And I have them all.

One of the nice things about the Crusin series is that there are quite a few songs that have not been on radio in years.

You also get to hear DJ's that were not on your dial.

My favorite of the series is 1964 which feature DJ Johnny Holiday on WHK in Cleveland, Ohio, who I remember from my childhood.

Crusin is also about AM radio before FM became popular.

And the commercials are great too!"
Diffrent from the vinyl album

"I was slightly dissapointed about this cd as I do have the vinyl albums and am replacing them with the cd's. The cd has a diffrent play format than the LP. EG The Ray Charles "oh yeah" part is not on the cd. Also the tunes are in a diffrent order on the cd. This is the case with most of the cd's in the series. The series could do with digital remastering which would help with the sound quality of the radio DJ's. All in all not a bad series."
"THE GREATEST R&B D. J. OF ALL TIME!!!"

"I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO KNOW OL' JUMPIN' (PHONE,LETTER'S,TRADING RECORD'S,TAPES) WE'D ALL

RUN HOME FROM SCHOOL TO HEAR OUR FAVORITE D.J. HE DIED AT THE AGE OF 80 IN 1993. HE LOVED HIS RETIRED

LIFE IN THE COUNTRY WITH HIS BEAUTIFUL WIFE. HE WAS A WHITE D.J. ON AN ALL BLACK STATION.

WE THOUGHT HE WAS BLACK. I SAW HIM ON STAGE INTRODUCING SHIRLEY&LEE,THE ELDORADO'S

ETC. IN 1955. THE ELDORADOS ARE ON THIS CD. YOU ALSO GET,BO DIDDELY,CHUCK BERRY,MOONGLOWS

AND PLUS 6 MORE RYTHMN&BLUES HIT'S. THIS PARTICULAR CD HAS MISSING, RAY CHARLES,OTIS WILLIAMS AND THE CHARMS,

THE MIDNIGHTERS,NAPPY BROWN AND WHAT WAS CALLED AT THAT TIME

THE" INTERGRATION" RECORD ;BILL HALEY&THE COMET'S. THIS CD SHOULD BE 48 MINUTES

INSTEAD OF 34 MINUTES. THE ONE WITH MORE SONG'S COSTS ABOUT $17.00. LOVE OL' JUMPIN'!!! I JUST NOTICED AMAZON JUST LISTED THE AUTHORS OF THE SONGS,BUT, NOT THE SINGERS. (EXCEPT FOR CHUCK BERRY,OFCOURSE.) BUT THE$17.00 ONE DOES'NT HAVE THE ELDORADOS WHICH YOU CAN GET HERE.

I HAVE A LP/CASSETTE/2 CD VERSIONS. ONE OF THEM HAS LITTLE WILLIE JOHN SINGING,"ALL AROUND THE

WORLD"+THE CHARMS WITH A DIFFERENT LEAD SINGER(YOUR NOT MISSING ANYTHING THERE.)WHY THE RECORD COMPANY MIXED EVERY THING UP,I DON'T KNOW WHY? JUMPIN' DOES MOST OF HIS COMMERCIALS.

"GOTTA SELL THE MERCH!" HE TOLD ME. YOU'LL HEAR THE GIRL SAY;"GO,GO JUMPIN'!" HE ANSWERS; "I LOVE EVERYBODY,ESPECIALLY YOU,BABY!!!" THE BLACK/CREAM/SALMON PINK DODGE HE ADVERTISED,I GOT A CHANCE TO SEE PARKED IN FRONT OF KSAN STUDIO BACK THEN. I WAS IN THE STUDIO ONCE AND GOT TO

SEE JOHN HARDY("HARDY'S PARTY") ANOTHER POPULAR DJ. AH, THOSE WERE THE DAY'S MY FRIEND!!!"
