'Foreign language' records have been popular since the very birth of recorded sound, while many have also gone one to become unexpected international hits. This eclectic, off the wall 28 track compilation presents twenty eight international hit records, sung variously in French, German, Italian and Spanish, most of which made the US and/or UK charts. The sides by Edith Piaf, Lolita, Petula Clark, Jacques Brel, Les Compagnons De La Chanson, Ivo Robic and Charles Trenet are the original versions of songs which would go on to become English language hits, when covered by Brits or Americans. Conversely, it also includes UK and US artists like Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Johnny Cash, Helen Shapiro, Gene Pitney, The Springfields and Jay & The Americans singing Italian or German language versions of their own hits.
