A Great Introduction to Boston Singer/Songwriters
08/09/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There is so much local talent in Boston, and this compilation will introduce you to a few. We're not talking Aerosmith here; we're talking acoustic guitars and gifted songwriting. (Aerosmith fans, I mean no offense. Different Strokes for different folks!)Ellis Paul, most recently on the soundtrack to 'Me, Myself, and Irene', is known as a 10 time Boston Music Award Winner, Kerrville Folk Festival winner, and the hardest working man in folk. Playing over 200 shows each year, Ellis' 'Paperback Man' stands out in the crowd on this cd.Martin Sexton's brilliant 'Glory Bound' is a song that you will never be able to let go and that's a very good thing. His raw, passionate vocals and beyond competent guitar playing will practically lead you to tears.Other standouts: Jon Svetky, Chris Trapper (of the Push Stars), and Jim Infantino with the hilarious 'Stress.' The most wonderful thing about this cd is that you are among friends. These musicians are all passionate about what they do and often are found crossing paths on their individual cds. So, let this compilation be the beginning of your journey into Boston's acoustic world, but certainly not the end."
