CD Reviews

This is real late 80's R&B except one song...
09/04/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was surprised to find that this CD included a rap hit "Me, Myself, and I" by De La Soul. I think I know why this occured. Many radio stations and record companies still did not consider rap music to be a genre of music officially until early 1990, so any rap hit was under the R&B genre during the 80's no matter how hardcore or how contrary it was to R&B music. There's a lot of nice tracks on this CD especially "Real Love" by Jody Watley, "Baby Come to Me" by Regina Belle, "Keep on movin'" by Soul II Soul, which sounds like a laid back "Back to life" and nice tracks by old school artists Gap Band and Skyy. These tracks are the forgottens of '89 because a lot of these songs were overshadowed by the pop artists that came out that year like MC Hammer and NKOTB and a host of others. This really reflects the R&B style of the late 80's which can be said to be smooth, mellow ballads with a touch of spice. R&B artists nowadays stop making music like this, and this should give you enough of a reason to buy this. PEACE!"
