CD Reviews

Hard To Find Disco Classics!
tpf2 | 03/30/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you are a disco fan and are looking for something different, then buy this! Almost all these songs have never made it on CD until now. Truly, this is very enjoyable and proof that a disco song doesn't have to be a billboard hit to be a classic. If you like this album and are thirsting for more, try "Super Rare Disco" volumes 1 and 2."
The Best of AVI Records

"A very good sampling of some of AVI's overall work!

My only problem: Although they clock in at over six minutes each, "Le Pamplemousse/Le Spank: and "El Coco/Cocomotion" are "single" versions. Both songs originally clocked in at over 9-10 minutes, each! There was room on the disk for both songs in their entirety. So, this means an additional expenditure down the road at some point!

My rating: 4 stars (I took one off for the "single" song versions!)"
Great Compilation - Every Track Is A Winner

"You can't go wrong with a compilation of the best of the AVI label. It's not funky disco, but it is very melodic - not stiff and drab like a lot of the euro disco and pop disco stuff of that day. The best tracks have to be the El Coco ones, and Le Spank by Le Pamplemousse (sounds like a Barry White tune, don't it?). I also enjoyed the lesser known tracks, like Have A Little Faith In Me by Evelyn Thomas, Never Let Go by Eastbound Expressway, and Keep It On Ice by Croissette (who'da thought a tabla would be used on a disco tune!). I would also recommend getting some of the other albums by the same artists that Hot Productions put out, especially James Wells 'My Claim To Fame', which features a Verrrry long version of the title track.
Enjoy!"
