Mocidade - best recorded Brazilian batucada in the world

"You will love this samba school. If you haven't heard batucada it will sound like crazy African drums or like a jackhammer at first; that's not Mocidade's fault, it's because you don't understand the music. It's like a foreign language of rhythm and you have to study it a little bit and listen a while to appreciate it. Listen to this CD a few times and read Chris McGowan's book, Brazilian Sound, to understand what Brazilian batucada really is. Then after you listen to this top name Rio Escola de Samba a few more times you will hear an incredibly rich texture of multiple overlaying rhythms that "speak" to you and release the "Orishas" (Afro-Brazilian religious deities that have been conjured up by drumming for hundreds of years). Try to play along some of these rhythms on a small drum or even with your pencil on the table; you will hear this music in yet a whole new dimension."
