"For some years I believed the Golden Era of Mexican music (the Agustin Lara era) was the end of great Spanish-language music. I grew up on the border and being both bilingual and bicultural, I watched with some reservation the evolution of Mexican pop music, prefering conjunto and norteno to the often derivative styles of Mexican pop. Times have changed! The incredible lyrics and orchestrations in this compilation are a joy to listen to. They trace a beautiful trajectory of elegant compositions that are as unique and authentic as they are passionate. There's a wonderful blending of both Spanish and Mexican artists and the mix is interesting. Here's Mocedades from Spain, Jose Feliciano from Puerto Rico and Jose Jose. My favorite song in the double CD is Jose Jose's Gavilan o Paloma. Why haven't more of these songs been translated and produced in English?! Enjoy as much as I have and know I've bought copies for my relatives and other close Spanish speaking friends."
