Sublime - dance music at its very best
nicholascreswell | London United Kingdom | 10/26/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Showing us just how sublime dance music can get, the Back to Love series take us back to the late 80s and early 90s when we in Britain were having an explosion of house music. The series is compiled by a couple of the DJs who were at the heart of it all, and bring together all their favourite tracks from that loved up time. The tunes are suitably upbeat and happy: highlights being "It's alright" - a homage to all that's best about music -, "Promised Land" - enough to reduce a hardened clubber to tears of joy and hope on the dancefloor -, and "Back to Love" - pure happiness encapsulated in music. Buy it in, and then come clubbing in London. It's the best!"
Revisit a time when the music just felt so good...

"This 2 CD compilation is a rare treat featuring many classic club tunes that we all know and love. Several tracks appear in their original 12" versions, but there are a few remixes worthy of note. Jamiroquai's "Return of the Space Cowboy" sports a fascinating dance beat, with a slightly different vocal arrangement than found on the original release. The Soul II Soul remix of "Ghetto Heaven" will leave you warm and fuzzy. "Tears," "That's the Way Love is," "Let the Beat Hit 'Em," "Got a Love for You," "Optimistic" and the obligatory "Back to Love" complete a very enjoyable listening experience. For anyone longing to indulge in a trip down club memory lane - get comfy, get out those pictures of you rockin' high hair, and get "Back to Love.""
For the "Love" of the Groove.

"This is the debut of Hed Kandi's "Back to Love," a series of double discs that contain club hits of yesteryear. While I'm not as impressed with this volume as I am with others, Volume 1 has plenty going for it to make this collection worth the while. You have to give Mark Doyle (who compiles these CDs) props for including the gone, and sadly forgotten, "Ghetto Heaven" by the slept-on Family Stand. The Soul II Soul remix of this mid-tempo jam appears, and it's just as funky now as it was back in the day. Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam team up with Clivilles and Cole for the pumpin' 1991 smash "Let the Beat Hit 'Em," while the old school house act Ten City show up for the excellent "That's the Way Love Is." But what makes "Back to Love" worth my money is the still-stunning "Got a Love for You" by Jomanda. If there's ever such a thing as a perfect house jam, then this tune (remixed by Steve "Silk" Hurley) is definitely it. Collections of this nature are a dime a dozen, but the well-chosen tracks make "Back to Love" a-"Hed" of the rest."
