CD Reviews

It may be a movie sound track, but this is music for dancers
Mark Hammond | Chambersburg, PA USA | 05/05/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I really enjoyed the movie, and I liked the sound track, too. I liked this disk because it was more like a tango disk and less like a movie sound track disk. Movie sound track disks tend to have music that adds to the suspense and emotion of the movie. Like I said, I like this disk because it really is a tango disk. I could put it on at a milonga or Argentine tango dance lesson, and people would not identify it as a movie sound track. The various tracks include tango music by great orchestras that many may already have in their collections: Alfredo Gobbi, Angel Vargas, Angel D'Agostino, Ricardo Tanturi, and Carlos DiSarli. There were four pieces actually written by Luis Bacalov for this disk. The name Luis Bacalov may not be familiar to many who listen to music. However, he is somebody who has an excellent reputation for writing the score to movies. His credits include "The Postman" (Il Postino) for which he won an Academy Award, "The Sky Falls" (Il Cielo Cade), "The Girl with the Luggage" (La Ragazza con la Valigia), and "The Love Letter." Tangueros may be familiar with his "Misa Tango" (Tango Mass) for chorus and orchestra, "Tango and Around," and "Tangosain."I regard this disk as a nice collection for people who like Argentine tango music. It makes a good introductory album for those who are starting in tango. This music is for dancing, my friends."
Great Movie!
E. Tom Jorgenson | St. Louis | 10/24/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Intriguing movie even without the incredible tango scenes. But if you're a tango dancer yourself, as I am, you won't want to miss the beautiful scenes throughout the movie as well as the show-stopping routine during the final credits. Oh.. And the plots fascinating as well."
A great soundtrack to a so-so movie
G. Morgan | 08/27/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this soundtrack CD after watching the movie. Only the music impressed me. The plot and script were unimpressive. But I wholeheartedly recommend this excellent collection of tango pieces."
