"Andrew Vachss devotees know that Burke loves the way Judy Henske sings the blues.Unfortunately, until recently, none of her music was available in print, and was very hard to find even in out-of-print stores.I ordered two copies of the Safe House CD when I ordered the book, when it first came out in hardcover. (I knew that my brother, for whom I'd bought the book, would want a CD as well.) Having been a metalhead in the 80s and a lover of "alternative" music during the 90s, I bought the CD out of sheer curiosity about Judy and not because of any love of the Blues. This CD totally entranced me, from the first time I listened to it. When I had a soundcard on my computer at work, I would listen to the entire CD from beginning to end every day without getting tired of it. It's like nothing I had ever experienced."

"I cannot get over this wonderful collection of the blues. I will put it on with the intention of getting something done while listening to it, but time and again, I find myself sitting on my couch, staring out the window as the music encases me. A wonderful CD to hold a mood, or just create one on its own account. A real must have."
LOVED IT--I LISTEN TO IT OVER AND OVER

"If you are an Andrew Vachss fan, you'll love this CD. I especially like Another Man's Woman by Marcia Ball. This is a "Must Have" album."

"this cd gives a good sampling of different blues artist, some i were familiar with and others new to me. wide range of styles was like trying different flavours of ice cream - all great. playing this in my car and i could pretend i was in one of vachss's novels and for the first time getting to hear burke's favorite judy henske. her voice can peel paint and i mean this in a good way."

"The CD *is* as billed- great blues; not processed, not tidied, the truth. Compilations can be tricky but this one is lovely, of a piece though with the diversity you hope for in a compilation. I've often put together interesting reading lists and lists of music to listen to from what authors mention in their novels... these are some blues which novelist Andrew Vachss likes (marvelous reads when you're ready for serious darkness, grit and fun). The only thing that's no darn fun is you're gonna love Judy Henske but where to get other recordings with her?!"
