A Good Introduction to Darkest Jungle/Drum'N'Bass
10/04/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"For those wanting to try their taste at Drum'N'Bass look no further. This is a good first taste. Personally I have searched high and low for good, dark jungle and drum'n'bass themes. I have only two other good examples. Kemistry & Storm's DJ Kicks album (please check this out too) and a free CD mix from Knowledge magazine call "Lowdown #5" (pure luck as it was an impulse buy). Look no further than E-Sassin's excellent dark mix right here before you. The first 5 tracks are the darkest, most evil dance tracks yet and I love it. It comes at you like a good punch in the gut. It helps to balance out my lighter side and love for psychedelic trance and progressive house. It is unfortunate that the sample for Tron by Panacea is from the middle of the 2 minute introduction. A sad, orchestral choir piece which seductively introduces you to the real flesh of this album. But the samples of track #2 and #3 should give you some idea of the potential of this album for your more shadowy personal quirks. Dark, dark, dark. That's the best I can express it. On top of that no cheesy dub flavours, raggae chanting or unimaginitive MC'ing overlays the tracks. Only track seven has a slight Hip Hop flavour but that's forgiven as that's only present in the introductive first minute of the track. This album is only truly enjoyable with a suped-up sub-woofer. Or blast it in your car system. It WILL crack your magnets!"
