The Erased Tapes' tenth anniversary project, 1+1=X, was created as a beautiful "object" -- a physical box-set made like an minimalist art object -- not at all standard-issue packaging.

The box is a solid little white-on-white slipcase made of heavy, creamy white textured, heavy-duty paperboard, as solid in the hands as a little hardcover book. It has an unusual triangular come-apart point that divides a large capital X, also deeply embossed. The two halves slide apart and fit together smoothly, to reveal the the two discs, side-by-side, nicely encased and marked 1, and 2. Next to these nestles another item, marked X: a 70-page softcover booklet.

The whole sturdy little thing is kind of elegant, and even sort of mysterious-looking. The title, 1+1=X, is embossed in small print, and a large, spidery, white-on-white X is pressed into the clean, pure white box, without other decoration. A very nice item!
