CD Reviews

The music that made an IMAX movie more memorable
Glenn Stewart | Sydney, NSW Australia | 05/25/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I didn't know what to expect at first when I sat down to watch this IMAX movie. Most seems to dazzle you with visions, and blow you away with sound effects. IMAX cinemas tend to have excellent sound.I found myself being taken away by the music. The movie itself although spectacular, took a backseat. The music although perfectly suited to the scenes, were so impressive I began to concentrate on each note, rather than each extreme sport. The collection of music chosen by the creators of Extreme, seemed to mirror much of the collection I had at home. After the screening, I raced down to the IMAX store to buy a copy of the CD. A queue before me, had the same idea. After listening to the CD many times, I saw Extreme again, even if only to figure which song fit where. From this CD and a few other complilations I own, I became a fan of Morcheeba. Their track "The Sea", would be among my favourite tracks from my entire collection of CD's.Soulfood are amazing. I have considered buying their album. The other classic track on this CD would have to be Afro Celt Sound System's "Sure As Not". I already owned Afro Celt Sound System 1 (the CD from which this track originates).Buy the CD even if you haven't seen the movie. If it doesn't have you searching every IMAX cinema for a showing of "Extreme", then I don't know what will.Buy it. See it. You'll love it."
Great relaxation music

"On getting a hold of this album, I expected a head banging, ball tearing, gutsy tribute to all those people who throw themselves off cliffs, or down Swiss waterways. But to my amazement, the album is a wonderfully relaxing concoction of soothing music and lyric. The earthy overtones of Soulfood's track (most of the album) coupled with some native grunts and groans add a mystical feel to the music. I love "The Sea", although the track is more like something you'd expect to see dolphins dancing on waves to than someone about to crash down the face of 50' waves!!All in all, wonderful stuff. Nice to have on while working away in the office."
I love the variety. One of my favorite CDs.

"I saw the IMAX film-the music carried it and I did not want the film to end. I love the combination of world, chants, primal and contemporary. This isa five star film-outstanding photography and music!"
