Synopsis

Album Description
2008 two CD set featuring the first two albums from this Heavy Rock outfit. Formed in New York in 1966 and signed to Atlantic's subsidiary Atco, Vanilla Fudge invented Heavy Rock. With a line-up of organ, guitar, bass and drums, they took existing Pop songs (and on later albums, Folk songs, classical music and their own compositions) and gave them extended, slowed-down, organ-drenched arrangements, which were an instant chart success with the burgeoning albums market. They also managed to breach the singles chart with their first single, a cover of The Supremes' 'You Keep Me Hanging On' (featured on the first album in this package), which reached # 6 (US) and # 18 (UK) in the summer of 1967. This release contains their first two albums, originally issued in September 1967 and March 1968. Edsel

CD Reviews

New release old sound

(2 out of 5 stars)

"This new release from Edsel is another example of how NOT to re-release an older disc. The technology is available to remaster and update cd's (DSD, K2HD). Unfortunately, this was just a roll the old tapes and dump it out there release. Maybe there will be a Japanese mini-sleeve release with the fantastic K2HD process soon."
