CD Reviews

A BASSIC TRIUMPH!
Raymond D. Istorico | Sarasota, FL. United States | 12/13/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I discovered this CD long after it's initial release and wish I had heard it much sooner. While Vail Johnson certainly demonstrates impressive chops on his bass, he also harnesses them to create interesting and highly listenable MUSIC (something that can not always be said of other musicians who specialize on one particular instrument - HINT Mr. Steve Vai). Terminator would be a great addition to anyone's CD collection."
Vails Triumph

"I too wish that I had purchased this album way back. Absolutely superb, solid bass playing, great bass lines, great melodies and superb voice. This and his other title 'Says Who' are probably my most listened to albums of all time. I own Kubicki Ex. Factor basses myself and can relate to the funky sound given and I think this helps even more to appreciate his incredibly fluid playing style. His playing is simply amazing and his writing skills are a credit to him. Keep it up Vail, you are up there with the best !"
Vail Johnson, the unspoken bass heavy weight
Upula C. | Singapore | 10/28/2000

"I got to see him on video playing with Kenny G. What a player! His sound on the Factor Bass is very deep and crispy when popping. He tunes the lower conventional E, to D in getting the lower open string sounding something really deep. He's got the speed for popping with two fingers combined with the thumb in creating 'popping triplets'. Well, thats as far I could analyse.Listening to sound samples in his album 'Terminator' compells me to buy the CD. (I am a Sri Lankan living in Singapore. If I'd not be able to find it here in HMV, or Tower Records, I will need to get down thro' the net) It sounds ideal for a bass lover and a player like me to get inspirations. Well done Vail, keep going. You are among the top basists in the world."
