Synopsis

Album Description
Uzeda is a four piece from Catania, Sicily, known for its close proximity to Mt. Etna, a volcano so consistently explosive that it makes the most obvious and closest comparison to Uzeda's music. The songs they create ebb and flow like molten lava. "The Sicilian agro-math quartet doesn't just keep up with its American counterparts; it transcends the expectations of fans and tour mates Shellac, Fugazi, and June Of 44. And at moments...the album is one of the most intense things producer Steve Albini has put his name on since Big Black" - Chicago Reader.

CD Reviews

The Best Record Released in 2006
El DZ | Chicago, IL USA | 03/11/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Uzeda's STELLA is an amazing work of mathy, minimalistic, rhythmic, and sonic perfection. With STELLA, the Sicilian band created a record that, at times, borders on the otherworldly, featuring probably the best sounding drums in the history of recorded music. Giovanna Cacciola's wailing vocals augment propulsive polyrhythms created by the instrumentalists. Agostino Tilotta's guitar punctures the calculated cacophony with odd, scraping textures reminiscent of the sonic exploits of Uzeda's American friends Shellac. The heart of this record, though, clearly lies in the collections of hooks and crosses delivered with knockout precision by Raeffaele Gulisano on bass and Davide Oliveri on drums, who intertwine syncopation, purpose, and evil intent to create the foundation of the eight exercises comprising this masterpiece. STELLA is essential."
