Noise rock and smart punk have lunch

"Unwound is one of those bands that started out wanting to do punk and got caught up in their creativity. This latest album shows a movement toward ballsy art rock, not dissimilar to Wire's movement, but perhaps not as fully realized. A few tracks seem weak, but only because tracks like "Sonata for Loudspeakers" and "Lifetime Achievement Award" shine so brightly. A few of the lyrics disappoint but most show a marked improvement in Justin Trosper's writing. Either way, Sara Lund's drumming is phenomenal and Vern is in full effect."
