CD Reviews

Micky, Where Have You Been?
susumu-5 | Japan | 01/07/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Can Vital Signs by Survivor be complete without Micky Thomas backing vocal? He did great job in backing chorus of Everlasting adding high-tone vocal touch to this masterpiece Survivor track. He was great as real musician for sure representing the glory of Starship with or without Jefferson. He appears only one track Fly with only last chorus part but this is just the beginning of his comeback as solo artist. The guys who made this album which is one of the best melodic rock album of 2001 will be supporting coming Micky Thomas solo album as well. They got together while producing Jimi Jamison(Survivor)'s masterpiece solo album Empires. In Empires, Klay Shroedel excellently did mission impossible of recreating Survivor sounding album. Klay's song arrangement style as far as I heard from Empires and Under Suspicion debut, is close to Jim Peterik. So the sound is not as glamorous at first listen unlike prog-flavored bands such as Journey, Boston, or Styx. Simpler styled yet with meticulous hooks. I am sure he is one of the hopeful post Ron Nevison or John Kalodner producers. Highlights include Come Tomorrow, Hold On, blues flavored ballad, Starship/Survivor styled "Fly" and hard-edged rocker "Love Without A Net". Essential for melodic rock fans. Highly recommended for Survivor, Starship, and Two Fires fans."
