Pain Travels Farther Than Light : A Look At Ufofu
Nathan Bat | Dallas, TX | 12/09/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)
"As a resident of Dallas in the 90's, as well as into the then-exploding local scene, I had the twin privilege of both seeing Ufofu live, and getting to know them. Now that they are gone, and now that the Dallas scene has gone very commercial, it seems that Ufofu is headed for the bargain bins and obscurity. This would be a pity, as anyone who gives this cd (the only full-length album recorded before the trio went off to separate recording projects) will soon understand.
Categorically, Ufofu is hard to place, blending in elements of roots-punk style (In A Chair In A Room), slower gliding melodies (The Skies Magnify Me), with bits and pieces of other genres, into a workable style that, while reminiscent of earlier experimental-punk bands (like The Minutemen), remains wholly their own.
Check this album out now, before it disappears into general Dallas apocrypha and band lore. You won't be disappointed."
