"First off, let me state that I'm biased. Neil Forrester, the lead singer/songwriter of Unilever, was introduced, albeit vicariously, to me through his stint on The Real World IV (London). In his introductory statement on TRW he described himself as being "Xenophobic" and "Misanthropic" - two traits which the up-with-the-people 90's made very difficult. Among the standout tracks on this album are "Act of Love", think of it as aural S&M; "Huevos y Queso" ("Eggs and Cheese"), a pseudo-rap/rock mix with the lyics "...we're overeducated, skinny & white."; "Englishman", a catchy, tounge-in-cheek look at the idiosyncrasies of that particular persuasian; and "Ubergene", a quite-brilliant song with a "propagate the Ubergene" chorus from the class of 7G2, Langdon School, East Ham. There's also a bizarre cover version of Madonna's "Justify My Love". And a 4:50 hidden/unlisted track à la Butthole Surfers at the end. Along with randomly selected exerpts of lyrics from the songs, there are some nice b&w thumbnail pictures inside the liner notes; fortunately Neil is not wearing the dog-bone chain he was fond of wearing so often in episodes of TRW in any of them. It would be great if this one-of-a-kind musical outfit got back together and recorded another album. Or did some more gigs. Appearing on MTV's TRW proved to Neil-the-musician's undoing; he said it best himself... "My hopes to garner any respect as a musician are probably dashed by appearing on MTV." - Neil Forrester"
This CD Rocks. I loved Neil and the music is awesome.

"Right. I bought this CD at a flea market. I'm not sure what to make of it though. I listened to it with my mother and she said, "That's gay." That is the first time I've ever heard my mother say that phrase. I don't know. It's different. I can't say that I've heard anything like it... I'm convinced that every single British man can sound like Ian Curtis. In one song I almost died laughing. I kept saying, "Didn't Ian Curtis die?!" For some, this may be a good thing, but to others it might be frightening. (Ian Curtis = Joy Division) I really like "Justify My Love," though I am a big Madonna fan. I don't know. If you can find it cheap somewhere, buy it. It's funny."
